Government is going to remove the limit of two years for battle casualty

Latest Updated 14/08/2023: A big relief is going to be given to the dependents of the martyred soldiers who laid down their lives for the protection of the country's pride. The limit for applying for a government job within two years of martyrdom is being revised to five years.

  • More than 240 martyrs of Uttarakhand have been martyred since the formation of the state.


Along with this, an agreement was also made to create ex-cadre posts when the posts reserved for the dependents of martyrs are filled. In the meeting of the Sainik Welfare Department chaired by Chief Secretary Dr. SS Sandhu, many important points including these were cleared. All the proposals have been handed over to the Personnel Department on the instructions of the Chief Secretary. Personnel department will prepare rules for this.

A senior official said that due to the two-year norm of battle casualty, the dependents of the martyrs are not getting the benefit. That's why it has been agreed to increase its limit. Along with this, due to lack of educational qualification required for the job many a times, the martyr's dependent faces a problem. The proposal to give lump sum assistance to such dependents in place of job was accepted.


There was a demand for a long time The demand to extend the time period for application to the martyr's dependents has been going on for a long time. The Directorate of Sainik Welfare also lobbied for it. Director Sainik Welfare Brigadier Amrutlal (Sr.) said that considering the two-year period as short, a proposal to extend it had been sent to the government. According to sources, Sainik Welfare Secretary Dipendra Kumar Chowdhary and Director kept this issue in an effective manner in the meeting. According to sources, since this is a matter related to appointment, the Personnel Department has been given the responsibility to implement it.

Current arrangements


Four posts each are reserved in the DM office in every district for the dependents of martyrs. The dependent of the martyr has to apply for a job within two years of the issue of the Battle Casualty Certificate. If someone wants a lump sum amount for living instead of a job, then this facility is not available now. Two posts each of Group C and D are created in the office under DM only.


Preparing for Change


An ex-cadre post will be created in anticipation of the vacancy of the retiring employee after the post created in the DM office is filled. Martyr's dependent will be given an opportunity to be appointed on a vacant post in another district. Can apply for job till five years of martyrdom. Instead of job, the option of lump sum amount will also be given.
