Latest Updated 17/05/2023: State Bank's branch manager, who was burnt in the fire, died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Delhi. On 6 May, the bank's own security guard had set him ablaze by sprinkling petrol on him in the office for not getting leave.


Originally a resident of Munger (Bihar), 57-year-old Mohammad Owesh s/o Shaukat Ali was the branch manager of SBI at Dharchula. On May 6, security guard Deepak Chhetri, a resident of Bhagwanpur, Dehradun, set Mohammad Ovesh on fire by sprinkling petrol inside the bank. Branch manager Ovesh, who was scorched up to 40 per cent, was referred to Haldwani for first aid. Later the family took him to Delhi for treatment. In-charge Inspector Kotwali Dharchula Kunwar Singh Rawat said that the death of the manager of the local branch of State Bank has been reported during treatment in Delhi. Necessary action is being taken in this regard.

The accused security guard has been arrested


According to the police, the bank guard Deepak was seeking leave from the branch manager to go home to Dehradun. When the leave was not approved, the guard sprinkled petrol on the branch manager and set him on fire. In this case, on the very day of the incident, the police registered a case against the accused bank guard under Section 307 of the IPC and arrested him.
