- Supreme Court rejects government's petition
- Refusal to interfere in High Court order
Let us tell you that Home Guard jawans Ajay Prasad and others had filed a petition in the Jharkhand High Court for equal pay and other benefits as policemen. The petitioners said that the post of Home Guard is a civil post, because they do duty like policemen, so they should also be given benefits like regular policemen. On 25 August 2017, a single bench of the High Court sent this case to the state government, directing the state government to take a legal decision regarding giving benefits to the petitioner and other home guards, but the government did not take a decision on giving equal pay as policemen. After this, the single bench ordered to give equal pay for equal work. Against this, the government appealed in the division bench of the High Court, after which it went to the Supreme Court.
And the division bench also rejected the government's petition and directed to follow the order of the single bench. When the government did not follow the court's order, the petitioners filed a contempt petition. During the hearing on the contempt petition on 10 February 2024, it was said on behalf of the government that the government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the order of the division bench. On this, the court had said that either the government should get a stay order from the Supreme Court or follow the order. The Supreme Court also rejected the government's petition and refused to interfere in the order of the High Court.
