Latest Updated 20/06/2024: The High Court has ordered the state government to reinstate the Upanal employees removed from the Agriculture Department. While hearing the petition regarding cancellation of the order of removal from the post of Assistant Accountant, the division bench of Chief Justice Justice Ritu Bahri and Justice Rakesh Thapliyal gave this order. The division bench said on Wednesday that till the final decision is taken in the special appeal of the government pending in the Supreme Court in this regard, their service should be restored. The next hearing will be on 28 August.

Ajay Kanwal and 19 others working as Assistant Accountant through Upanal had filed a petition in the High Court in the matter. The petition said that the government issued a notification for the posts of Assistant Accountant through the Subordinate Services Selection Commission. They should have got priority in these, which they did not get. Also, their services were terminated on 27 February. In this case, Kanwal and others have challenged the order of the single bench of the High Court in the division bench by filing a special appeal. In the special appeal, the petitioners said that in Kundan Singh vs State Government, the Uttarakhand High Court has ordered to regularize the personnel working through Upanal. In this, the Supreme Court has given a stay on the appeal of the state government. On what basis was his service terminated even after the stay from the Supreme Court?
