Latest Updated 16/06/2024: Preparations are underway to fill a large number of vacant posts in government departments of Bihar. On the basis of the information sought before the Lok Sabha elections, the state government has received information about a total of 4 lakh 72 thousand 976 vacant posts in various departments. However, there is a difference in the information about these vacancies received online and offline.
On high-level instructions, the General Administration Department has now sought updated information about vacant posts from various departments till 31 May 2024 in a week. It has been asked to provide separate information regarding regular and contractual appointments. Rajneesh Kumar, Joint Secretary, General Administration Department, has written a letter to the Additional Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, Secretary of all departments and requested them to provide updated information about the vacant posts.

According to the letter, some departments have given different figures regarding the working force and available vacant posts against the sanctioned force, which is to be updated. According to sources, currently 11,53,951 personnel are working in a total of 45 departments of the state against the sanctioned post of 16,26,927, while 4,72,976 posts are vacant.
