Latest Updated 21/06/2024: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday registered an FIR against unknown persons in the UGC-NET paper leak case in view of the reference of the Union Education Ministry. Officials gave this information.


UGC-NET is an examination related to determining the eligibility of Indian citizens for Junior Research Fellowship, appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to PhD in Indian universities and colleges. This time the exam was conducted across the country in two shifts on June 18. Sources said that the next day the University Grants Commission (UGC) received important information from the National Cyber ​​Crime Threat Analysis Unit of the 'Indian Cyber ​​Crime Coordination Center' (I4C) that the question papers were available on the darknet and were allegedly being sold on messaging platforms for Rs 5-6 lakh.

He said that the CBI will work in close coordination with I4C by launching its own 'Darknet Exploration Software and System' to catch the criminals. Officials said that as per the Education Ministry's complaint, the information received from I4C, working under the Union Home Ministry, "prima facie indicates that there is a possibility of the sanctity of the examination being compromised".


Investigate paper leak case


The reference note of Education Ministry Secretary K. Sanjay Murthy said, "In order to ensure the highest level of transparency & sanctity in the examination process, the Ministry of Education has decided to cancel the said examination & hand over the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation." The reference note is now part of the FIR. The FIR states that the facts of the complaint prima facie disclose the commission of offences punishable under sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code against unknown accused.
