Latest Updated 09/10/2023: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that it will not be mandatory to appear in class 10th and 12th board examinations twice a year. He said that this option is being introduced to reduce the stress caused by the fear of getting an opportunity. Pradhan said that it is our endeavor to conduct examinations twice a year from 2024.

Pradhan, in an interview to a news agency, said that students will have the option to appear for the board exams twice a year (for classes 10th and 12th) just like the engineering entrance exam JEE. They can choose their best score but it will be optional, there will be no compulsion.

The Union Minister said that students often get stressed thinking that their one year has been wasted, they have lost their opportunity or they could have performed better. He said that if the student is satisfied with the score in the first set of examination, he/she can choose not to appear in the next examination and nothing will be mandatory.
