Selection of singers for the final of Githyar-2 in UK Uttarakhand latest news update 2023
Latest Updated 10/09/2023: Under the auspices of Uttarakhand Cultural Committee, in collaboration with Chandni Enterprises, the second semi-final of the state level folk singing competition Gityar Season 2 was organized in the Senate Hall of Doon University on Saturday. In which out of ten singers selected in online audition from different districts of Garhwal division, five were selected for the final round.
The program was inaugurated by the jury and chief guest Mahipal Singh Rawat. The semi-final of Kumaon division was held in Haldwani on September 3. 10 singers selected from Kumaon and Garhwal will participate in the final. Naveen Tolia, coordinator of the competition and patron of Uttarakhand Cultural Committee, said that the main objective of the Gitiyaar competition is to discover emerging singers as well as to provide them a platform. Out of 498 participants, 53 were selected for the second phase. 25 participants were selected for the semi-finals through online audition. Each participant gave three performances in the semi-finals.
The judges also asked questions related to folk music genres from the participants. On the basis of this, Avinash Bhardwaj from Dehradun, Mandeep Singh from Pauri Garhwal, Rajat Pal from Haridwar, Shruti Khanduri from Uttarkashi, Vasudha Gautam from Pauri Garhwal were selected for the finals. Music directors Ranjit Singh, Sagar Sharma and Rajendra Kumauni announced to compose one song each for free for the winners.
Folk singer Meena Rana, folk singer Santosh Khetwal, Dr. Rakesh Bhatt and folk singer Rajnikanth Semwal played the role of judges in the competition.
