Latest Updated 25/07/2023: The hearing of the coal pensioner's case (WP-3118-2015) began on Monday after eight years in the Delhi High Court. Pensioners had filed a writ in the Delhi High Court in 2015 against getting a minimum pension of Rs 45. The hope of the pensioners is raised when the hearing starts.


The counsel for the petitioner gave his arguments in the court. On behalf of the court, the defendant was asked to present his side. The writ petitioners submitted that the entire matter was not placed on behalf of the respondent Coal India. The next hearing of the case will be on 12 October.

In this regard, pensioner Ramanuj Prasad said that the number of coal officers and employees getting pension ranging from Rs 45 to Rs 300 is close to 1.26 lakh. All of them retired before the year 2006. Due to wrong calculation of low pay scale and 30 years service period, pension was fixed at Rs 45. A request was also made to Coal India against this. In the absence of hearing, the writ was filed. He told that those who retire after 2006 get a minimum pension of Rs 70 thousand.


Pension scheme was implemented in Coal India in 1998. On the demand of personnel, officers and personnel who retired till March 31, 1994 were brought under the ambit of pension. After eight years, the situation is that more than 75 thousand pensioners have died.
