Bihar Health Department Recruitment 2023: 5000 Doctors will be recruited soon latest news update

Latest Updated 26/07/2023: Shortage of doctors in Bihar will end soon. The health department has decided to reinstate five thousand doctors. Under this, 1300 (assistant professors) in the medical college and 3800 doctors for general hospitals will be restored. A requisition has been sent to the Bihar Public Service Commission for the reinstatement of doctors (physician teachers) in the Medical College. The proposal for restoration on the remaining posts will be sent to the cabinet soon.

According to departmental officials, doctors will be reinstated under the Bihar Health Service. There are 6629 sanctioned posts of General Medical Officer in the department. Of these, 6391 doctors are employed. Only 238 posts of General Medical Officers are vacant. The biggest shortage in the state is of specialist doctors (PGs). The sanctioned posts of specialist medical officers are 5093 in the state. Out of these only 1570 are employed. 3523 posts are vacant. The department has started working on a special strategy this time to fill the posts of specialist medical officers. On the other hand, restoration of dentists will be done under the Dental Services Cadre.

There are 586 sanctioned posts of dentists in the state. Of these, 523 doctors are employed. Only 63 posts are vacant. Including all the three posts, 12308 posts of doctors are sanctioned in the state. Of these, 8484 doctors are employed. There will be restoration on 3824 vacant posts. While 1318 doctors will be reinstated in the medical college under the medical education cadre. The restoration process is targeted to be completed this year. In view of this, along with sending requisition to BPSC, the Health Department has also requested it to complete the restoration process without delay.


Due to the shortage of doctors, patients are facing difficulties in getting treatment. The decision to reinstate has been taken keeping in view the shortage of doctors. Soon the restoration process will be completed.
