Latest Updated 07/06/2023: The issue of Barabendia, which is always in limelight in Nirsa Assembly politics, will not dominate till the next elections. This time a new bridge will be constructed next to the incomplete bridge. The Road Construction Department has prepared a plan to construct the bridge at a cost of Rs 241 crore. The DPR of this scheme has got technical approval. It has been sent to the department for administrative approval. There is a possibility of getting administrative approval this month itself.


During the construction of this bridge connecting Dhanbad's Nirsa to Jamtara, the pillar had collapsed in 2008. Since then this scheme was lying pending, but after constant raising of voice by Nirsa MLA Aparna Sengupta in the assembly, the government has taken cognizance of it. In the DPR prepared by LNT Company, there is a plan to construct a new bridge next to the incomplete bridge at Barabendia. Its length will be 1.6 km. At the same time, the length of the approach road connecting to the bridge will be 1.35 km. Its tender will be issued as soon as the administrative approval is received.

Distance will be reduced Due to the construction of this bridge on the Barakar river in Barbandia, the distance of Jamtara and other districts of Santal will be reduced from Dhanbad. Now the distance from Nirsa to Jamtara is about 60-70 kms. After the construction of the bridge, this distance will be reduced to 30 km.


The old bridge was to be built at a cost of 55 crores In order to connect Jamtara and Dhanbad, the construction work of about three and a half kilometer long bridge on the Barakar river started in the year 2007-2008, with a budget of 55 crores. During construction in the year 2008, 4 pillars of the bridge collapsed in heavy rains. After this there was a more of uproar. The govt took action & the Dalmia & Group, the then company that built bridge, was blacklisted by the govt.
