Wrestler returned from Haridwar Uttarakhand handing over medal to Tikait latest news update 2023
Latest Updated 31/05/2023: Wrestlers raising their voice against sexual harassment handed over their medals to Naresh Tikait, president of Bharatiya Kisan Union. Tikait convinced the wrestlers who reached Haridwar not to do so by announcing that they would immerse the medal in the Ganges on Tuesday. Tikait assured that he would hold talks to get them justice and would hold a mahapanchayat in Muzaffarnagar on the issue. On the persuasion of Tikait, the wrestlers returned in the evening.
On reaching the banks of the Ganga, the players got emotional and cried. Naresh Tikait, who arrived around 7 pm, talked to the wrestlers and explained to the wrestlers.
Wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Sangeeta Phogat reached Harki Paidi on Tuesday evening to demand action against Wrestling Federation (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. When the wrestlers reached here, the mayor of Haridwar, Congress MLAs and leaders, representatives of AAP and farmer leaders reached Malviya Ghat in their support. The wrestlers sat there for more than one and a half hours. Slogans were raised in support of the players. Many people who came to see Ganga Aarti also came in support of the players. On reaching the banks of the Ganga, the players got emotional and cried. Naresh Tikait, who arrived around 7 pm, talked to the wrestlers and explained to the wrestlers. Naresh Tikait said that if his demands are not accepted, there will be a mahapanchayat in Muzaffarnagar within five days. In which the next strategy will be prepared and decided.
Shriganga Sabha had announced protest
Sriganga Sabha President Nitin Gautam said that the protest was announced even before the players reached Harki Paidi. He had said that the medal from Brahmakund would not be allowed to be immersed in the Ganges. Said that Harki Paidi should not be made a political arena. General Secretary Tanmay Vashisht said that Harki Paidi is the center of religious activities, those who come to do religious work are welcome. All the people coming to the dharna demonstration will be stopped.
Rakesh Tikait appeals not to immerse the medal
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait tweeted and appealed to stop the wrestlers from making excuses in the Medal Ganga. He tweeted and wrote, this medal is the pride of the country and the tricolor. We suggest to all wrestlers not to take such a step. You have made country proud with your sport. We request the President & the PM to take the matter into cognizance and talk to the wrestlers shortly.
