Latest Updated 19/05/2023: New gaushalas will be set up at the district level for the protection of destitute cattle in the state. A decision in this regard was taken in the cabinet meeting on Thursday. On the other hand, the Gaushala operators will now be given Rs.80 per day instead of Rs.30 per day for maintenance and fodder etc. per cow.

Chief Secretary Dr. SS Sandhu said that an important decision was taken in the cabinet for the protection of cattle. Under this, the DM at the district level will be able to give land on lease to NGOs for making cow shelters. An MoU will be signed with the NGO for operating the Gaushala. The district administration will assist if help is needed in creating the infrastructure for the construction of the gaushala. It may be known that at present about ten thousand bovine animals are living in 39 Gosadanas of the state.
