Trending News: Sengol handed over to Modi, inauguration of new parliament building today

The Prime Minister said, this is an opportunity to revive the moment of independence

Latest Updated 28/05/2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new Parliament House at 12 noon on Sunday. Prominent people of different religions will also be present on this occasion. Meanwhile, 21 Adhinams reached Delhi from Dharmapuram in Chennai on Saturday. On the eve of the inauguration, the Mahant of Adhinam handed over the golden scepter (Sengol) to the Prime Minister amid chanting. Modi took blessings from the saints and greeted them.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister strongly targeted the Congress. Addressing saints, Modi said the 'sengol', a symbol of the transfer of power from the British in 1947, should have been given due respect after independence, but it was displayed as a 'stick' at Prayagraj's Anand Bhavan. He said, Anand Bhavan was the residence of the Nehru family, which was converted into a museum. Our government has now brought Sengol out of there.

Symbol of tradition

  • A commemorative coin of Rs 75 will also be released on this occasion.
  • 5 feet tall Sengol will be installed in Lok Sabha

Modi said, Sengol is important not only because it was a symbol of the transfer of power in 1947, but also because it connects the glorious traditions of pre-colonial India with the future of independent India. Modi said, it is unfortunate that the contribution of Tamil people in India's independence was not given the importance it should have been given.
