Latest Updated 22/05/2023: No form or identity card is required to replace the maximum 10 notes of 2,000 rupees withdrawn from circulation. The State Bank of India (SBI) has written to the chief general managers of all its local head offices, saying that the general public will not need any form to exchange 2,000 rupees notes up to 20,000 rupees in one go.


No identity proof is required to be submitted at the time of exchange, the bank said in a letter dated 20 May. SBI has asked its local head offices to arrange all assistance for the public. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday announced the withdrawal of 2,000 rupees notes from circulation.

The public has been provide the time till 30 September to deposit or exchange these notes in the bank accounts. However, the 2000 rupees note will remain legal tender till 30 September, while the 500 rupees and 1000 rupees notes were invalidated overnight in the 2016 demonetisation.
