Latest Updated 20/05/2023: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to withdraw the Rs 2000 note under the Clean Note Policy. However, these notes will remain in circulation for now. However, RBI has advised people to deposit these notes in banks by 30 September 2023 or to change them in banks and regional offices of the Reserve Bank.


In a statement issued by the RBI on Friday, it has been said that 89 percent of the 2000 rupee notes are around March 2017. In such a situation, these notes are about to complete their usable period of 4-5 years. It has been clearly said in the instructions given to the banks that they should not issue Rs 2000 notes with immediate effect.

Note exchange process to begin from 23 May RBI has said that common people can continue to hold their Rs 2000 notes in bank accounts as before.
