Latest Updated 27/04/2023: Chhapra and Samastipur Medical College will be ready this year. After this, the treatment of people will start here. The patients of these districts will not need to come to Patna and they will be able to get treatment in the medical college. The studies in both the medical colleges will start from the academic session starting next year.


The medical college being built in Chhapra will have 500 beds. There will be admission for 120 MBBS seats. 376.27 crore has been spent on this hospital. Similarly, Ram Janaki Medical College and Hospital is under construction at Sarairanjan in Samastipur at a cost of Rs 591 crore. Admission will be possible for 130 MBBS seats in this medical college. While the Medical College will have the facility to admit 500 patients at a time. After the construction of two new medical colleges and hospitals, the number of such institutions will increase from 11 to 13 in the state. The government has set a target to increase MBBS seats in the state to 4,500 by the year 2028. At present, enrollment in MBBS takes place on 2,540 seats in the state.

Studies will start in Purnia Purnia Medical College is ready. To start MBBS studies here, the state government has requested the central government to get the medical college inspected. It is expected that the National Medical Commission team will come here soon and inspect. Last year also the exercise to start studies in Purnia Medical College was started, but the success was not achieved. This year the department is expected to start teaching on 150 MBBS seats in Purnia.


Rahui Dental College approved


Permission has been granted for dental studies on 100 seats in Nalanda's Rahui Dental College. It was inspected by the Dental Council of India in the past. The DCI has informed the officials of the health department about the approval. Soon the department will get its formal letter. This will be the second dental college in the state after Patna.

Construction of three more colleges soon


In this year's budget, Deputy Chief Minister cum Health Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has announced to open three more medical colleges in the state. Tender will be issued soon for the medical colleges to be opened in Supaul, Motihari and Munger. A target has been fixed to complete the construction of all the three medical colleges within three years from the commencement of the construction work. It may be noted that the state government has decided to open one medical college in each district.
