Many changes in syllabus and pattern for the academic session 2023-24, more emphasis on evaluation

Latest Updated 10/04/2023: CBSE has made many changes in the syllabus and pattern for the upcoming academic session 2023-24. Especially this change is regarding the evaluation of the students. As per the guidelines sent to the schools, the number of competency based questions will be increased.


There will be 50 percent merit based questions in 9th-11th


40 percent aptitude questions will be asked in 11th and 12th

As per the guidelines, now 50 percent questions in class IX and X will be merit based. And in class 11th and 12th, the merit based question has been reduced to 40 percent. The teachers told that from this session the weightage of short and long answer type questions has been reduced by the CBSE Board. The focus of the board will be more on Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). Aptitude based questions will consist of MCQs along with short and long answer type questions.

Students' creative ability will develop According to teachers, the change made by CBSE in the evaluation scheme will prove helpful in developing students' creativity and thinking ability. From the next session, more questions related to real life will be asked in the board exams. This change has been made keeping in mind the New Education Policy 2020. There can be more changes gradually for the betterment of education.


Changes will happen like this According to the board, till last year, the weightage of ability-based, multiple-choice, case study and source-based integrated questions was 40 percent in ninth and tenth, which has been increased to 50 percent in this session. The weightage of multiple choice questions will be 20 percent. The weightage of short answer & long answer questions has been reduced from 40% to 30%.


Three new vocational courses included


CBSE is going to start three new vocational courses in class 12 this session. These include Land Transportation Associate, Electronic Hardware, Design Thinking Innovation. Including these three new vocational courses, the board will conduct a total of 43 vocational courses. The board has also fixed the marks for this. In 39 vocational courses, the theory examination will be of 60 marks and the practical examination will be of 40 marks. In the remaining four vocational courses, the theory and practical examination will be of 50-50 marks. The CBSE Bard has provide complete information about this to all the schools.


Weightage of questions increased from 30 to 40 percent


Last year, the weightage of ability-based, multiple choice, case study and source-based questions was 30 per cent in class 12, which has been increased to 40 per cent this session. The weightage of multiple choice questions will be 20 percent. Similarly, the weightage of short answer & long answer questions has been reduced from 50% to 40%.
