Latest Updated 23/04/2023: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets worth Rs 5.62 crore of a private educational institute in Roorkee in connection with the scholarship scam. This action was taken on the allegation of forgery in scholarship on the educational institution.


From the year 2012 to 2015, some private educational institutions in connivance with the officers of the Social Welfare Department had embezzled the scholarship amount of SC and ST students. In this case, the SIT registered more than 100 cases against the owners of educational institutions and officials of the department. In the initial investigation, the scam was said to be more than Rs 200 crore. In this case, a year ago, the ED had sent notices to more than fifty educational institutions, including Haridwar, Roorkee and Dehradun, up to Saharanpur, Haryana and Himachal.

According to sources, now assets worth Rs 5.52 crore of Roorkee's Phoenix Group of Institutions have been attached. This group is being run by Bimal Prasad Jain Educational Trust. Investigation revealed that most of the scholarship amount was deposited in trust and other accounts.


ED has already attached assets worth 1.45 crores


The ED had earlier attached the property of an institute in this case as well. Action was taken on Village Industries Development Institute, Roorkee. Its properties worth 1.45 crores were attached.
