Latest Updated 27/03/2023: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel and Training has asked the UPSC to reduce the duration of the civil services recruitment process. The committee has stressed that the 15-month long process of civil services recruitment leads to loss of valuable years of the candidates. Also, their physical and mental health is adversely affected.

At the same time, the committee has also said in its latest report that the commission should find out the reasons due to which the number of candidates appearing for the civil services examination is decreasing. About 32.39 lakh candidates applied for the examinations conducted by UPSC in the year 2022-23 whereas only 16.82 lakh of them actually appeared in the examination.
