Optional subject removed from UPPSC PCS Mains Exam latest news update 2023
Latest Updated On 23/02/2023: The state government has abolished the compulsion of optional subject from the main examination of Combined State / Senior Subordinate Services (PCS). In its place, 2 question papers of general knowledge related to Uttar Pradesh have been added.
This proposal was approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by CM Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday. For this, the proposal regarding amendment in the proposal of the Department of Personnel has been passed, including the State Senior Subordinate Services Main Examination & Examination Scheme syllabus. After this, the long-standing dispute related to scaling will end.

The optional subject was compulsory in the main examination of the Combined State / Senior Subordinate Services (PCS). In the main examination, the applicants of science subjects used to get more marks than the applicants of humanities subjects, then in the name of scaling, some would have to benefit & some would have to suffer losses. There was a more controversy regarding scaling in PCS-2018.

Due to scaling, there were also complaints about the selection of all the applicants from other states in UP. That's why the request for removal of optional subject from PCS main exam intensified. The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission had sent a proposal to the govt to remove the optional subject.
