87 thousand seats vacant in private ITI College in Bihar latest news update 2022

Latest Updated 19/11/2022: The interest of students across the country, including Bihar, towards Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) is decreasing. More than half of the private ITI seats in the country remained vacant. Only in Bihar, 55 percent seats of ITI remained vacant. The Bihar government has sought more time from the Directorate General of Training (DGT) to fill up the seats left vacant after the enrollment date ended. While ITI operators have approached the Delhi High Court.

According to the Labor Resources Department, there are 1197 private and 150 government ITIs in the state. The DGT fixed October 30, 2022 for the second time, extending the last date for admission in all ITIs of the country for the session 2022-24. This date has expired. Demand to extend the date of Admission

Reason for late admission in last session

Due to Corona, the last date of enrollment in the session 2021-23 was extended by the Directorate General of Training till February 15, 2022. Due to non-availability of the state government portal in Bihar, the process of enrollment continued till April. Means only four months time could be saved for the current session 2022-24. In such a situation, the students who had to enroll, took it before April itself. However, despite enrollment continuing till April, more than 20 seats in the state's ITIs remained vacant.

Expiration of railway vacancy is a big reason

Most of the students used to do jobs in Railways after passing ITI. For the last several years, adequate number of recruitments for ITIs were not done by the Railways. Because of this, the interest of students towards ITI is decreasing. Apart from this, the Bihar State Training Directorate is not widely publicizing the benefits of ITI studies and the employment opportunities associated with them. Because of this also, students are unaware of the benefits and employment opportunities.

The union requested the government to seek extension of time from the DGT. The Labor Resources Department sent the union's letter to the DGT. Apart from this, the union has also filed a petition in the Delhi High Court. In this, permission has been sought to take nominations till 25 December. The petition is to be heard next week.
