Ten years imprisonment for paper leak in Bihar
Latest Updated 25/07/2024: In the investigation done so far in the NEET paper leak case, it has come to light that students had bought question papers for Rs 35 to 60 lakh. It was decided to give the question paper to students of Bihar for Rs 35 to 45 lakh and to some students from outside for Rs 55 to 60 lakh.
So far, the CBI investigation has found evidence of more than 150 students getting the question paper. Their examination centers were at different places in Godhra in Gujarat, Latur in Maharashtra, Hazaribagh in Jharkhand, Patna and other cities.
35 students were made to memorize the paper. In this, about 35 students were given the question paper with answers and made to memorize it in Patna alone. This has also been mentioned in the report filed by the central investigation agency in the Supreme Court recently regarding the investigation done so far.
Out of the 150 students who received the leaked question paper, about half the candidates did not get a good rank. Some candidates could not even pass by getting the minimum marks. Anurag Yadav, son of Sanjeev, brother-in-law of Sikandar Prasad Yadavendu, the then junior engineer of the Water Resources Department, who got the setting done in Patna, got around 350 marks. Anurag got only 5 marks in Chemistry.
The Assembly on Wednesday approved the Bihar Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024. Now, if found guilty in paper leak, the punishment will be from three to ten years and a fine of one crore will also have to be paid. If caught on the charge of paper leak, going to jail is certain, because in the new law all the crimes will be cognizable and non-bailable.
Introducing this bill in the House after the lunch break, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said that laws were made earlier regarding paper leak but they were not effective. In a way, they had become ineffective. That is why this strict law has been brought. In the last few years, 48 cases related to paper leak have come in 16 states. Recently, the Central Government had made a law regarding paper leak and requested the states to implement it.
UP Life imprisonment and fine up to one crore
In Uttar Pradesh too, the Yogi government has approved the introduction of the Public Examination Ordinance 2024. Under this, if found guilty in the question paper leak, punishment of 2 years to life imprisonment and a fine of up to one crore will be imposed.
Uttarakhand life imprisonment and fine up to ten crore rupees
Under the law passed by the Uttarakhand government, there is a provision of punishment up to life imprisonment in leaking the competitive examination paper and related cases. There is a provision of financial penalty of ten crore rupees. Uttarakhand implemented this law in the year 2023 itself.

Provision of punishment for candidates and service provider
If any candidate appears in the examination in an incorrect manner, then a provision of three to five years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10 lakh has been made for them. At the same time, if the service providers involved in the examination violate the law, then there is a provision of a fine of one crore rupees. The cost of the examination will also be recovered from the service provider itself. He will be blacklisted for four years.
