Latest Updated 01/05/2024: A general category person above 45 years of age will not be appointed to the post of Assistant Professor in the government medical colleges of the state. Patna High Court on Tuesday rejected the application filed for increasing the maximum age limit of doctors from 45, 48 and 50 years to 70 years.

The division bench of Chief Justice Vinod Chandran and Justice Harish Kumar heard the application filed on behalf of Dr. Nishant. It is noteworthy that under the Senior Resident/Tutor and Medical Education Services (Appointment, Transfer and Promotion) Rules 2008 in the state, the age limit for reinstatement of Assistant Professor in government medical colleges of the state is 45 years for general category, 48 years for OBC and 48 years for SC- The maximum age limit for ST category has been fixed at 50 years. This rule was challenged.

The applicant said that the National Medical Commission has set the maximum age for appointment of Assistant Professor in government medical colleges at 70 years in the entire country. But, the court validated the state government's law in this matter.
