Latest Updated 16/04/2024: Uttarakhand High Court has canceled the order of the State Agriculture Secretary to forcibly retire the professors working under the research project in Pantnagar University. The court has given instructions to reinstate them as well as give them all due benefits. The case was heard in the division bench of senior judge Manoj Kumar Tiwari and judge Pankaj Purohit.

The Agriculture Secretary had given orders on July 4, 2023 to retire these professors working under the research project, considering them as non-academic, on completing the age limit of 60 years. The order of the state government and Pantnagar University to retire the petitioners considering them as non-teachers has been challenged in the High Court on behalf of Deepa, Vinay and others through a petition. It has been argued that the retirement age limit of professors in the state is fixed at 65 years.
