Latest Updated 22/04/2024: After four-year graduation, students will now be able to directly appear for the National Eligibility Test (NET), along with which they will also be able to pursue PhD. UGC Chairman Jagdish Kumar gave this information.

To pursue PhD with or without Junior Research Fellowship, candidates will need a minimum of 75 marks or equivalent grade in their four-year undergraduate course. Till now, NET required a candidate to have a postgraduate degree with a minimum of 55 marks. The UGC Chairman said that candidates will be allowed to do PhD in whatever subject they want, irrespective of the subject in which they have obtained a four-year undergraduate degree.
He said that candidates pursuing a four-year or eight-semester undergraduate degree program must have a minimum of 75 percent marks or its equivalent grade. Jagdish Kumar said that as per the decision taken by the UGC from time to time, there will be a relaxation of five percentage points or Equivalent discount may be given.
