NET score will be considered for PhD admission latest news update 2024
Latest Updated 28/03/2024: NET score can be used by students for admission to PhD program in lieu of entrance examinations conducted by various universities/higher educational institutions. University Grants Commission (UGC) provided this information on Wednesday.

In the notice released, UGC also informed that candidates qualifying in Category 2 and 3 will be given 70 weightage for test score and 30 weightage for interview for admission to Ph.D.
UGC Secretary Prof. Manish R Joshi said a national entrance test for PhD would help the students. As part of the process of implementing the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), an expert committee was constituted to review the provisions of the National Eligibility Test (NET).
Decision after the recommendation of the committee Based on the recommendations of the committee in the meeting held on March 13, 2024, it was decided that from the academic year 2024-2025, students can use NET score to get admission in Ph.D. The result of NET will be declared in percentage along with the marks obtained by the candidate for use of marks for admission to Ph.D. Under the PhD Regulations 2022, JRF qualified students are given the admission to PhD on the basis of the interview.
NET candidates will be eligible in these categories
● Category (1) Ph.D. with JRF and (ii) for appointment as Assistant Professor.
● Category (2) Ph.D. without JRF and (ii) for appointment as Assistant Professor.
● Category (3) only Eligibility for admission to PhD program (ii) Not for JRF award or appointment as Assistant Professor.
