Breaking News: IPS sent to 15 days jail on MS Dhoni's petition
Latest Updated 16/12/2023: On the petition of former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Madras High Court on Friday sentenced Indian Police Service (IPS) officer G Sampat Kumar to 15 days' imprisonment.
- Case related to betting in IPL
- 30 days time to appeal against sentence
Dhoni had filed a petition related to contempt of court against the IPS officer. However, a division bench of Justices SS Sundar and Sundar Mohan suspended the sentence for 30 days to give Sampat Kumar an opportunity to appeal against the sentence.
This matter is related to Indian Premier League (IPL) betting. Dhoni had filed a defamation case in 2014 over his name being used in IPL betting and had sought compensation of Rs 100 crore. Sampat Kumar's counter affidavit filed in this case sought to punish him for the comments made against the judiciary.
