Breaking News: Hearing on Hemant's application regarding ED summons on 18 September 

Latest Updated 16/09/2023: The hearing in the Supreme Court on Chief Minister Hemant Soren's petition against the ED summons was postponed on Friday. The petition will now be heard on September 18. During the hearing on Friday, the court was told on behalf of Hemant Soren that his advocate Mukul Rohatgi is ill. For this reason he is not available for hearing. Therefore, the case should be heard on some other day.


The court of Justice Aniruddha Bose and Justice Bela M Trivedi accepted the request and scheduled the hearing for 18 September.

By sending summons to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, ED has sent summons thrice in the land purchase and sale case. Hemant Soren has not appeared before the ED even once.


He has challenged the summons in the Supreme Court. Describing ED's action as wrong, he has said that he is being harassed for political reasons. He has already provide the information about his assets to ED. If ED has lost it then they can make it available again. ED wants to destabilize the democratically elected government.


Section 50 and 63 of PMLA have been challenged


In the petition challenging the ED summons, it has been said that the ED has the right to arrest someone only during interrogation. Therefore, there is always a fear of arrest in view of the summons issued for questioning. In the writ petition filed by CM Hemant Soren in the Supreme Court, he has challenged Sections 50 and 63 of PMLA. Hemant Soren has also requested the Supreme Court not to take any coercive action against him.
