Latest Updated 02/08/2023: KGMU doctors gave a new life to a 13-month-old girl by removing a fetus weighing about two and a half kilos from her stomach. After the operation, the health of the girl child is improving.


Rumaisha, the 13-month-old daughter of Shahzad Alam and Rahima Khatoon of Siddharth Nagar, was having swelling in her stomach since five months. There was no appetite and there was difficulty in breathing. When the family members brought KGMU, the treatment started under the supervision of Dr. JD Rawat, Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery. On investigation, it was found that the girl had a fetus in her stomach. Dr. JD Rawat told that in medical science this disease is called fetus in fitu. This disease occurs in one in five lakh children. Bones and other body parts as well as hair and intestines were also developed in the embryo.

According to Dr JD Rawat, the fetus was attached to the membrane of the left kidney and left lung along with veins and arteries. It was removed after about three hours of surgery on 31 July. The team also included Dr. Sarvesh Kumar Gupta, Anju Sister and Dr. Satish Verma from the Department of Anesthesia.
