IIT NIT Joint Counselling 2023: This year the number of students decreased latest news update 2023
Latest Updated 27/06/2023: Joint counseling process is going on for more than 57000 seats in top 119 engineering institutes including IIT-NIT of the country. Students can do choice filling & registration till 28 June.
In the 1st mock seat allotment, 1 lakh 56 thousand students joined in the counseling, but this year according to the 1st mock seat allotment, 1 lakh 55 thousand 778 students have joined in the counseling, whereas in the 1st mock seat allotment last year, 1 lakh 81 thousand 914 students filled the choices. This year less than 26 thousand students have joined in the counseling.
The major cause for this is considered to be the compulsion of board eligibility for IIT-NIT Admission this year because this year students must have 75 percent in 12th board or top-20 percentile according to the respective board's category for admission to IIT-NIT has been made compulsory. Concession was being given for the last three years and 12th passed students were eligible for admission.
After the release of the board top-20 percentile score and due to the requirement of 75 percent eligibility announced earlier, students have stopped taking interest in counseling considering themselves ineligible even after getting a better rank.
One of the causes for this is that after seat allotment, the students have to deposit a counseling fee of around 40,000 rupees & after that the allotted seat is confirmed only after checking the documents. In such a condition, there is every possibility of cancellation of allotment in case of non-fulfilment of eligibility.

Second mock seat allotment today
Expert Ahooja (Ahuja) told that 2nd mock seat allotment of JoSAA counseling will be released on Tuesday. Mock seat allotment will be released on the basis of the number of students who have saved the college branch till 26th June at 5 pm.
