Breaking News: Professor dies due to drowning in swimming pool in IIT ISM Dhanbad
Latest Updated 14/06/2023: Mining professor Dr. Yashwant Kumar Gujala died on Tuesday morning due to drowning in the swimming pool of IIT ISM Dhanbad. Dr Yashwant, a resident of Odisha's Balasore, went for swimming on Tuesday as usual, but drowned in deep water and died.
Union Minister of State for Education Annapurna Devi's program at IIT has been canceled due to the incident in IIT campus. Dr. Yashwant Kumar Gujala, Assistant Professor of IIT ISM Dhanbad, reached the swimming pool built in the campus at 7.30 am on Tuesday morning. In the morning, 16 people were swimming with him in the swimming pool. During this, he swam towards the 13 feet deep water at the end of the pool. The people swimming together thought that they would turn around, but when they did not return after some time, their search began. The safety team saw that they were submerged under water.
