Agreed, new salary will be applicable from 1 July 2021, arrears after three months

Latest Updated 21/05/2023: National Coal Wage Settlement-11 has been concluded. The agreement was signed on Saturday in the presence of Coal India Chairman Pramod Agarwal in Kolkata. Under this, the basic salary of coal workers has been increased by 19 percent. According to this, there will be a minimum monthly increase of Rs 9,000 and a maximum of Rs 32,000 in the salary of coal workers.


The new wage settlement will be applicable from 1 July 2021. Arrears will be paid after three months. The economic impact of the new agreement on Coal India will be Rs 6,000 crore. The new salary will be received from the salary of June, which will be paid in July.


The new wage settlement will benefit 2.42 lakh coal workers of Coal India and subsidiary companies. At the same time, about 42 thousand workers of Singareni Collieries will also get benefit. About one lakh coal workers of Jharkhand will be benefited from the wage settlement.

After approving the wage settlement from the Coal India Board, it will now be sent to the Ministry of Coal for approval. The management indicated in the meeting that it was all a formality. Positive talks took place between the management and the unions and the five trade unions signed the memorandum of understanding.


How many benefits


● There are 2.42 lakh employees of Coal India and its subsidiaries across the country who will get the benefit of this agreement.


● There are more than one lakh coal workers employed in Jharkhand, who will be benefitted by the decision of salary hike.


Not decided on


There is currently no consensus on two important issues, female VRS and medical unfit. By the way, these issues were discussed between the management and the union leaders. It was told that these will now be further discussed in the meeting of the Standardization Committee.


● 9% underground allowance has been increased to 11.25%

● House rent allowance increased to 2.5 percent instead of 2 percent.
