Latest Updated 17/04/2023: Students studying in Lucknow University will now be able to study the excavations of Ayodhya. The excavation of Ayodhya has been included for the first time in the fourth unit of Field Archaeology, the eighth paper of the fourth semester of BANEP. Together with Ayodhya, excavations at other ancient sites Bhimbetka, Kalibanga & Hastinapur have also been participated in the curriculum.
Chairman of the Department of Ancient Indian History and Archeology, Prof. Piyush Bhargava told that Ayodhya is an ancient city located in Uttar Pradesh. Whose mention is found in Ramayana, Mahabharata and various Puranas. In accord with Puranas, this city was well established by Manu of Ikshvaku dynasty. After that Dashrath, Ram etc. ruled in his generation.
He said that Alexander Cunningham, who is called the Father of Indian Archaeology, has told that Ayodhya was also mentioned as Saket.
