Latest Updated 21/03/2023: There will be relaxation in the minimum height (stature) limit for women applicants belonging to Extremely Backward Caste (EBC) & Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) category in police recruitment. CM Nitish Kumar made this announcement while making an intervention in response to a question in the Assembly on Monday. The CM said that action will be taken immediately to reduce the minimum height limit for women applicants of EBC and SC-ST category in police recruitment. Significantly, in the Bihar Police Recruitment, the minimum height of women of all categories is 155 cms.


165 cm minimum height limit for general and backward class men


Bathnaha MLA Anil Kumar raised the issue of reducing the minimum height limit for women applicants of EBC, SC-ST category. In response, Minister in-charge Bijendra Prasad Yadav said that in the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) for the candidates who have passed the mains examination in Police Restoration, the minimum height for general category & backward class men is 165 cm and for EBC, SC-ST men 5 cm less than normal. The minimum height is 160 cm. At the same time, the minimum height for female applicants of all categories is 155 cm. There is no proposal under consideration of the Govt to reduce the minimum height limit for EBC, SC-ST category women.

Asking a supplementary question on this, BJP's Nand Kishore Yadav said that that is why questions are asked in the Home. The purpose of asking the questions is that the govt should improve its provisions. When men of EBC, SC-ST category are being provide minimum height facility of five cm less then why can't the female applicants of this category be given relaxation of five cm. Intervening on this, CM Nitish Kumar said that the government will take immediate action in this direction.


Intervening on the question of BJP's Nitish Mishra, CM said that people are forgetting that when I was a Union Minister in the Atal government, I took the initiative to provide govt jobs to sportsperson. On the same lines, provision was made to provide jobs to sportspersons in Bihar. At the same time, in response to this question, Bijendra Prasad Yadav who is in-charge minister said that the players are being reinstated on the basis of the 2014 rules. In 2020, vacancies were sought from the districts. Important action is being taken for restoration.
