Approval from Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) is necessary before taking admission

Latest Updated 17/03/2023: Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) has taken more admissions in the pharmacy department than the number of available seats. Approval from Pharmacy Council of India was for admission only on 60 seats but admission of 95 candidates was taken. When the exam came near, the matter got cemented. Admission of 35 candidates may be canceled if approval is not received from PCI.


In the current academic session 95 admissions have been taken in anticipation of approval from Pharmacy Council of India. When the exam came near, the matter got cemented. AKTU examination committee was called on Thursday. In this, it was decided that in anticipation of approval, the examination of the students should be conducted. The PCI approval can be obtained anytime during the argued 4 year course.

In the meeting of the examination committee, it was decided that in anticipation of approval, the examination of the candidates should be conducted. The Registrar has sent 2 letters to PCI for approval. AKTU has enough resources. It happened many times that PCI released approval after admission.

The deputy registrar said that it has happened earlier also that Pharmacy Council of India approval was received after taking admission. He informed that the executive council of the university had provide approval to start B. Pharma course. Thereafter application was made to PCI for approval of hundred seats. The Pharmacy Council had allowed admission on only 60 seats. After it, a letter has been sent again for the approval of remaining seats. Hope to get approval shortly. PRO Dr. Pawan Kumar Tripathi said that the Executive Council of the University has been empowered to began new courses under the Technical University Act.


LU spokesperson Dr. Durgesh Srivastava said that PCI had recommended 100 seats for B.Pharm & 60 seats for Diploma. Only after that admission was taken.
