Latest Updated On 14/06/2022: The Housing Department is contemplating to recruit 1850 town planners on the basis of population in the cities. On the recommendation of NITI Aayog, a town planner is to be appointed for a population of 30 thousand. A consensus has been reached in this regard in the meeting of the higher officials.
At present, about 5.50 crore population lives in the cities of the state. There is no need based town planner for planned development. The standard set by the NITI Aayog was discussed in the meeting of the high officials of the Housing Department. It was told that on the basis of population, 1850 town planners would be required under the control of Housing and Urban Planning Department, Industrial Development Department and Urban Development Department.

Most of the posts are vacant
At present, assistant town planners and architect planners are working on 48 posts out of total sanctioned 140 posts out of 50 in town and village planning department, 67 in development authorities and 23 in housing development council. The proposal for recruitment to 50 vacant posts of Assistant Town Planner, Architect Planner has been sent to the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission.
